Fire strikes quickly and usually without warning, leaving you little time to respond. Don’t wait until it’s too late – plan today and be prepared for tomorrow. The following tips can help you keep your property and family fire-safe.

Prepare and Prevent
⊲	Install ul*-marked smoke detectors.
Test them monthly, and replace batteries
twice a year.
⊲	Create a “defensible space” around your home, with a clearance of at least
100 feet (200 feet in Los Angeles County). 
⊲	Remove debris from your roof and trim
tree limbs hanging over the house.
⊲	Create easy firefighter access to your closest emergency water source.
⊲	Have an evacuation checklist that includes escape routes, personal
papers and critical medications.
In Case of Wildfire
⊲	Make sure you are safely away from
the fire and call 911.
⊲	Close all windows and doors. If time allows, clear trash away from your house.
⊲	Turn lights on to make your house more visible in heavy smoke.
⊲	Fill bathtubs, sinks and buckets
with water for extra reservoirs.
⊲	Evacuate early; don’t wait to be told
and stay out of the area until re-entry
is allowed.
